Pattern Book
The architectural pattern book possesses a long and admirable history in America, with the first examples being produced in the early nineteenth century. Some of the most popular and influential of these books were created by Alexander Jackson Davis and Andrew Jackson Downing, who romanticized a new mode of architecture--and an entire way of life. Whole Town Solutions draws on and expands this tradition, offering plans not only for creating individual houses but entire towns and neighborhoods. We offer an extensive selection of designs in various national styles–building prototypes for the twenty-first century. Our plan book pays homage to the spirit of historical American towns and neighborhoods, and includes styles from Colonial Revival to Craftsman, Gothic to Greek Revival, Modern to Vernacular. We offer villas, foursquares, bungalows, cottages, lofts, live/work units, townhouses, and commercial buildings.
Our plans are successful because they take into account how people live and how they want to live. Homeowners appreciate the quality, beauty, and livability of our designs. Perhaps for the first time, they see their homes as expressing something essential about themselves in lasting form, whether elegance, sophistication, strength, serenity, authenticity, romance, urbaneness, whimsicality, or intelligence. Our designs typically feature
- distinctive architecture
- highly efficient spaces, both stylish and timeless, that achieve maximum effect for the money.
- extensive outdoor living rooms with terraces, pergolas, and porches. Fences, living fences, and stone walls further serve to distinguish public from private spaces.
- open and flowing floor plans with lots of flex space. Almost all of our houses include rooms designed to serve as offices, studios, playrooms, or hobby rooms, depending on the needs of the homeowner. Many of our plans include downstairs suites for in-laws or guests who have a hard time leaving. Several of our designs feature expandable third floors perfect for an au pair or older child still living at home.
- master bedroom suites that serve as retreats, featuring secluded entrances, large walk-in closets, and spalike baths.
- thoughtful touches here and there that make life easier and better. We often provide drop zones between the garage and the house where keys and briefcases can be deposited, muddy rain boots and rain gear shed, and items and errands arranged for the next takeoff. Every angle and line of vision in our designs is carefully considered for privacy, aesthetic value, and convenience. Laundry rooms are often placed near the master suite. Many of our homes include a secluded desk area in the back of the house where one can work or just catch up with e-mail or the daily news while listening for the kettle to whistle in the nearby kitchen or the needs of children in the nearby great room. Secluded but not isolated, the space provides just the right amount of quiet, and kids often end up doing their homework, school projects, and arts-and-crafts here as well.
- heart-and-soul kitchens. Our kitchens are known for their style, roominess, and state-of-the-art amenities. The kitchen and the great room with its hearth form a contiguous living area that is the spiritual center of the house and the favorite gathering spot during parties and get-togethers.
